It has been a little over a year since I started writing this blog. Although I have never considered myself much of a writer, I can certainly talk about inkle weaving, it seems.
I'm grateful to all you folks who read and encourage me.
The whole experience is an upward climb in learning how to use the internet and connect with interested and interesting people. Constantly, I am learning new things.
I've chosen to move my blog over to WordPress, because I can make a slicker looking site with more options. This wins out over paying someone to make me a cool-looking website.
My son and daughter have agreed to help me build it, which is a fun prospect in itself.
Here's the big question, and what I want you to help me with.
You have been finding me at ASpinnerWeaver.blogspot.com.
With WordPress, I can have my very own domain name. I went shopping for names the other night and found that there were some relevant choices available. Several. So I signed up for 6.
I'd like you to help me choose the one to use. My goal with the site is to keep blogging and meeting other weavers as well as to promote my online sales.
What do you think is the best choice to get me found here in the big world wide web?

Choices are:
  • ASpinnerWeaver.com
  • iWeaveSashes.com
  • AnnieMacHale.com
  • InkleWeaver.com
  • WovenStraps.com
  • InkleBlog.com
Right now, if you type in any of these, they will bring you right back here, but I want to chose and use the best one when setting up the new site.
Please post a comment below to help me decide.

The name ASpinnerWeaver is one I chose to use about 15 years ago, and although I like it, I think it is misleading for most people who have not known me a long time. I do not spin. I was born into the name Spinner and only changed it ten years ago when I married Mr. MacHale.

  1. Annie I'd purchase the AnnieMcHale.com and use the inkleweaver.com as the main site. It gives you both options for search. I purchased sharimacleod.com and have it directed to my blog at redtwigbrowntwig. I think it's worth the minimal cost of the extra domain to have your own name in your hands. Hope that helps.

  2. Annie, I agree with branch manager! I have only learned just with WordPress that you can direct or re-direct any address to any address. I like ASpinnerWeaver and IWeaveSashes because they are your ETsy names, but ultimately the name should be YOU, because that's the name I would search for when I could not remember the other two. Once you narrow it down a tad and get everything connected, it will gel. (I am still working on that one, too.)

  3. I can see the value in owning your own name, but I must mention that ASpinnerWeaver is so cozy and familiar. I like the in-joke of the "spinner" part, too. Anyhow, pick what speaks to you loudest and all you friends will flock to your site.

  4. I've searched for blogs on inkle weaving before and not found you so my choice is InkleWeaver.com. I'm glad I finally found you!

  5. I've got to go with inkleweaver! The reason......when I think of the word 'inkle' you come to mind! :) ......kind of like it's YOUR art.....I'm sure I'm not the only one that sees you that way and you certainly would fill that domain name the best;)

  6. If you've been using ASpinnerWeaver for 15 years people may be looking for that.

Wordpress is great. For a few dollars extra you can edit your template, which is a nice feature.

  7. If you are trying to increase sales of your woven goods I would go with the sash or straps or weaver name. I would vote against the inkle name because if I were looking for a strap or sash I might not have any inkling of what an inkle loom is.

  8. Thank you all so much for your thoughtful comments and kind words! There are some great ideas here and for different reasons, different names make sense. You have all pointed out good reasons. I have all the names for now directed here, but think for marketing purposes, I should choose and use one. And the internet adventure continues.............

  9. Annie, as much as I hate for you to drop the "spinner" part, I think you probably would show up on more relevant searches as iWeaveSashes.com
Take this with a grain of salt, from your brother, whose domain name is "spinnerplastics.com" though I'm not really in the plastics business.

  10. I think using inkle weaver will bring you a ton of traffic-can't believe someone else hasn't already snapped it up!

  11. Laverne, I agree, I like the ring of this one myself.
While it may attract other inkleweavers, it probably won't help me sell guitar straps. Such a dilemma!

  12. There is actually a blog at: Inkleweaver.blogspot.com and it has nothing to do with inkle weaving. Go figure!
