Basket Weave

If you have been reading my blog for a while, you know how fond I am of baskets. You may have read this previous post.
Recently a friend prompted me to weave a strap based on patterns of the Ohlone Indians of Central California. This past week, I took a stab at that. Here are two results, but now I want to keep going. They will either be made into guitar straps or multi-use shoulder straps (for: laptop/briefcase/camera/luggage/messenger bag, etc. ).
Post a comment to let me know which one you like best and why.

  1. I like the second one best - mostly because the zig zag isn't as noticeable. For some reason, I'm not a fan of zig zags in weaving. (I know....twill is great....but still.)

I like the use of color in both, but I like the black and white part in the center of the second one a lot too - so that's also part of why I like it!

  2. Thanks, Sue. I meant to say that I think the top one actually does a better job of representing this local basketry, but the bottom one is good, too, and looks like it could be a basket weave.

  3. I like the bottom one. I like the black going down the middle and framing the sides, and just the design in general. I like the zigzag too, it's just that it's more common so I like seeing the "different".

  4. I prefer the top one. It feels calm to me, and the other, while interesting, seems jumpy :)

  5. Oh dear, I like which ever one I'm looking at best, I'm not good at this sort of decision! I think the second is more unusual and so more striking to my eye.
