Fringe Twister

Hope you all had a great Christmas! I got kinda busy and haven't posted for a while.
Recently, when talking about my scarves, I mentioned that I use a "fringe twister" to make the fringe on the ends. A reader asked "What is a "fringe twister?".
So here is a picture of the wondrous little tool in action.

Basically, you take a group of threads (I usually do about 8-10) and split it in half. Clip each half to one of the alligator clips and twist until it kinks. Take the clips off and tie the two groups together using an overhand knot. When you let go, they untwist some and in the process they twist themselves together in the opposite direction. It is really simple, but genius.
And here is a link to Village Spinning & Weaving's online shop where you could purchase one of your own.

  1. Aren't fringe twisters great? I just got one and it is so much easier than twisting fringe by hand!!

    Enjoy!

  3. Right! I remember what it was like to make fringe before I had that tool! Now I just sort of wish I had an electric one.

  4. as a teenager in Scouts we used to make a version of this - using three rather than two (spinners?) to make rope - loads of fun. It is in part this little gadget that started my interest in spinning and weaving. I was not aware that you could actually buy them for finishing ends on projects like inkle weaving - neat.
