It is fun for me to line them all up and compare and contrast designs. Hopefully, you will enjoy seeing them, too. The pattern drafts are included so that you can use them to help design your own bands. I ask that you don't copy any EXACTLY, as I assure my customers that these are one of-a-kind designs. All are 2" wide and mostly use my favorite sport weight cotton. In some cases, heavier or thinner yarns were also used.
FOR SIMPLICITY OF USE, CONSIDER THE TOP ROW TO BE HEDDLED THREADS AND THE BOTTOM ROW TO BE OPEN THREADS ON ALL OF THE DRAFTS.
In the one above, I experimented with using the yarns doubled to produce a thicker band.

Each strap is more beautiful than the last, what lovely work!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Martha!
DeleteThank you so much for sharing, they are all lovely, and it looks like I will be busy. :)
ReplyDeleteJulie- If you use some of these patterns to create your own, I hope that you'll share pictures!
DeleteI really appreciate the way you laid out these patterns directly below the sample, I've been having a hard time visualizing how the patterns become the different designs, and this has finally made it crystal clear to me! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteGlad that this helped, Stephanie!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful colours, beautiful patterns. Would love to be able to do this but only work with a Sunna heddle. Still one day .......
ReplyDeleteI am so glad I found your blog. I am just starting to learn to weave bands so I can make collars and leashes for my puppies and the inspiration here is plentiful. Your work is amazing, thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing.I hope my son with Downs Syndrome will be able to weave Puppy collars belt
ReplyDeletes.
Hola Annie, antes de nada, gracias por tu generosidad para compartir.
ReplyDeleteSoy principiante y me tiene fascinada este arte.
Thank you for sharing your patterns! They are all lovely. I was looking for inkle patterns that were already wide enough for guitar straps without having to modify the pattern too much, and here you are. I will modify enough to add 1/2 inch since my husband likes 1/2 inch straps. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteThank you for these awesome drafts! They are a lifesaver for those of us who struggle with where to begin!
ReplyDeleteI'm very pleased with the woven results and just love the sheen and drape of the brlt! I did have to endure sticky warp syndrome, but it was totally worth it 🙂
Finished belt is 1.75" wide and 63" Long
Loom: Ashford Inkle (not fully warped)
Pattern: 6th draft slightly modified to accommodate my bulky weight yarn on the limited width of the inkle loom.
Warp: Fibre Co Tundra (60% Alpaca 30% Merino Wool 10% Silk, 119yds (109m)/3.5oz, Bulky) in Baby Beluga
Weft: Patons Bamboo Silk (70% Bamboo/39% Silk., DK-2) in light grey/stone
Currently, I am soaking the belt to allow the yarn to bloom/blossom, lol. I left the fringe out of the water as I'm not sure if I am going to braid it, leave as is (probably not), or finish the ends and add a slide type buckle. For now, I will just tie it around.
Can I use these patterns on a back strap loom? Also I’m unsure of the terms heddled threads and open threads. Are the heddled threads those in the holes? Thanks these patterns look awesome and I can’t wait to give them a try
ReplyDeleteYes, the patterns are for warp-faced bands no matter what type of loom you use them on. My inkle loom uses string heddles to divide the threads into 2 layers. Threads on one layer go through string heddles while threads on the other layer do not go through heddles, therefore they are in the "open". The way you worded your question, it sounds to me like you are using a rigid heddle with your backstrap setup, is that right? If so, you will thread one layer through the holes and the other layer will go through the slots. It doesn't matter which is which; the pattern will come out the same either way.
DeleteHave fun!
